Back Behind the Lens at Grand Slam Track

Grand Slam Track was more than just the kickoff to summer—it was a creative reset for me. After some time away from my camera, this event pulled me right back into the rhythm of visual storytelling.

It felt a little weird at first—like shaking off dust I didn’t realize had settled. But once I got moving (and I mean literally moving—because I cannot stand still at events like this), the excitement kicked in.

I started seeing things with a curious eye again. Where’s the energy? What’s the story in the corner of the frame? What moment might everyone else be missing?

This time, I challenged myself. I didn’t just focus on the athletes—I focused on the fans. Their reactions. The in-between moments. The joy, tension, pride. That’s where the heartbeat of an event lives.

I also pushed myself to shoot differently. New angles. More layers. Less concern for perfect lighting or centered frames—and more attention to feeling. These experiments reminded me why I fell in love with photography in the first place.

Grand Slam had this rare blend of culture and competition. It didn’t feel like just another meet—it felt like a movement. From the roar of the crowd to the energy on the track, every piece mattered.

Being back behind the lens reminded me that my camera isn’t just a tool—it’s a translator. Every time I pick it up, I’m re-learning my language. And at Grand Slam, that language spoke volumes.
